Before my site went under construction last month, I published an honest post about what this “wonderlustful” expatriate life can sometimes feel like over 8,000 miles away from the place I would call “home.”
It was a lower point on the roller coaster of my journey.
Later that evening, my partner asked how my writing had gone, having taken notice of my puffy eyes and runny nose. I handed him my laptop and offered him a read. Once finished, my partner asked if he could respond by writing something back to me.
This is what I found on my computer screen:
So….she shows me her thoughts, advertised to the world through the black and white pixels of a blog. A vehicle that allows her the freedom for some to see beyond all the façades our modern world has created – Instagram (N.B. I HATE THIS ONE!!), Facebook, snapchat and the thousand others……
I get glimpses of the woman I met, of the the woman I see when I look across the dining table, the woman who I hope will always sit across from me…..
I just hope she wanders through the words in her blog to find me at the end. I see the journey she takes through the adjectives, verbs, nouns, conjunctions, pronouns, adverbabiales (and other the other amazing jargon that describes our language). It unravels her thoughts and surmises them in beautiful black and white, and I just hope she sees the power those words have and the power she has as a woman, as my partner, as the only Amanda Luukinen… on Google (or so I’m told)……
*Yes, he asked me to post his response! Feel free to comment below if you would like to share a thought as well.
